THE SPECIAL SPECTRUM OF EFFECTS OF HYPOGEN BEARD CARE
Beard hair in particular
HYPOGEN BEARD CARE aims to offer products that are generally non-irritating and minimize allergies. Beards have special requirements for sensitive skin and allergy sufferers, both in terms of health and aesthetics. HYPOGEN BEARD CARE has worked with hairdressers - especially barbers - and the dermatology department at the RWTH Aachen University Hospital to ensure that these requirements are met precisely.
Beard conditioning
The plasticity of the beard hair is particularly important for the aesthetic appeal of the hair, as beard hair is a type of awn hair.
Awn hairs are stiff, bristle-like hairs that are significantly stronger and more brittle than the main hair. The harder and coarser quality of the beard hair is functional. They are intended to protect the skin from environmental influences.
The beard has become more and more culturally prominent, especially in recent years. In general, there are two options for looking at the beard from an aesthetic point of view:
(1) The beard is shaved regularly (full shave).
(2) The beard is kept in shape, i.e. regularly shaved along the contours (contour shave) and cut into shape overall (topiary).
From a health and aesthetic perspective, shaving (full and contour shaving) and grooming are particularly important. The topiary cut is, per se, well tolerated.
The shave - general conditions ...
With regard to shaving, the challenge for allergy sufferers and those with sensitive skin is to only use hypoallergenic, i.e. non-allergenic shaving products. It is important to ensure freedom from irritation from an allergy point of view. The following factors play a particularly important role here:
pH value
The pH value of conventional shaving products is alkaline in order to swell the awn hair, thus ensuring a clean cut via thickening and alleviating "tearing" when shaving. This initially prevents skin irritation caused by these physical influences. However, the alkalinity irritates the skin by denaturing, i.e. destroying, the skin's cell membrane complex. Conventional aftershaves used after shaving try to alleviate this effect by being acidic and thus attempting to rebuild the damaged cell membrane complex to some extent. However, this aftercare is not sufficient for sensitive skin, a tendency to skin irritation (e.g. razor burn) or allergies. This is because most of the damage remains and the negative effect of the initial application has already been realized.
Sliding ability
For wet shaving, a shaving product on the skin must allow the razor to glide to minimize the potential for irritation. The blades must also not become "clogged" in the spaces between them during shaving so that they remain able to cut. Conventional products also solve this problem by using alkaline, i.e. skin-damaging formulas.
Dry shaving, on the other hand, puts extreme strain on the hair papillae. This very often results in injury to the papillae, which can then become infected. All in all, dry shaving is therefore not recommended for allergic or sensitive skin.
Rinseability
A shaving product must be easy to remove after shaving and, above all, leave no residue. Alkaline formulations of conventional products in particular usually leave residues on the skin that cannot be adequately neutralized by an after-shave. The accompanying leave-on effect induces a creeping irritation potential.
The HYPOGEN CARE shave ...
HYPOGEN BEARD CARE takes all these conditions into account. With HYPOGEN BEARD CARE, an almost irritation-free, hypoallergenic shave - blades always irritate the skin - can be achieved. This can be seen in the following points:
pH value buffer 5.5 throughout the day ...
The Shave Balm and the Aftershave Balm from HYPOGEN CARE are both equipped with the special pH buffer system of pH-balance technology: The pH value of the facial skin is buffered at the skin-optimal pH value of 5.5 during or after shaving throughout the day. The skin's cell membrane complex, the so-called skin protection barrier, is thus generally stabilized and the skin remains resistant throughout.
More information in the section:
pH-balance technologyLubricity & skin conditioning ...
Thanks to the special biopolymer complexes of the sublevactum formula, HYPOGEN BEARD CARE achieves very smooth skin with high lubricity and very smooth beard hairs that do not "clog" the blades.
The sublevactum formula also conditions the skin. It is provided with an imperceptible microfilm that generally soothes irritation and inhibits irritation. Skin irritations such as razor burn or post-shave inflammation are thus prevented during shaving.
General freedom from irritation of the formulation ...
Shave Balm and Aftershave Balm from HYPOGEN CARE are designed as leave-ons and can therefore be left on the skin. The shave balm in particular was also tested at RWTH Aachen University (dermatology department of the university hospital) as part of leave-on tests and showed no irritation potential if left on the skin.
If the products remain on the skin due to inadequate rinsing, there is no risk of forced irritation. On the contrary, leaving them on the skin even has positive effects: Its cell membrane complex, i.e. its protective barrier is strengthened and its moisture balance is improved.
Enlarged hair diameter: More shaving comfort!
HYPOGEN CARE uses a special hair thickening technology to ensure a tear-free shave: the biopolymer complex contained in the sublevactum formula increases the diameter of the hair and thus offers the blade more surface area to attack. The force exerted by the blade on the beard hair is thus distributed over a larger cutting surface and tearing is avoided. It is therefore not necessary to alkalize the hair.
Beard care - general conditions
When it comes to beard care, there is another special requirement for beard hair: in order to shape the beard aesthetically and not make it look rough and unkempt, the beard hair requires special, more intensive conditioning than the main hair.
Beard cleaning
Conventional shampoos only cleanse using strong anionic surfactants, the skin-damaging effects of which are widely recognized.
Facial skin is much more demanding than normal skin or the scalp - above all, it is more sensitive. This is where cleansing but also skin-friendly care is important.
Beard conditioning
It is important to keep the beard hair supple and at the same time malleable. Soft beard hair contributes to a scratch-free beard feeling all day long. At the same time, the beard shape must be aesthetically pleasing. Conventional shampoos - even supposedly special beard products - do not condition the beard hair sufficiently. In most cases, the beard hair as a whole remains too brittle and tends to look unkempt.
Pathogen-inhibiting effects
The facial skin of beard wearers is generally at risk from a specific pathogen: Tinea barbae. This is a special fungus that manifests itself on the facial skin of beard wearers. In order to generally rule out the risk of infection, the beard care products used must have pathogen-inhibiting or antimicrobial effects without irritating the skin itself. Conventional products do not achieve this.
The HYPOGEN CARE beard care ...
Beard shampoo and beard care oil from HYPOGEN CARE cares for the beard in a user-friendly, simple way - without any significant additional effort. Skin irritation and, in particular, skin infections are avoided in a hypoallergenic way. This is particularly evident in the following:
Absorption-based beard cleaning ...
The HYPOGEN CARE beard shampoo is based on a special absorbent cleansing base - and not on a conventional surfactant base. Impurities are not trapped by surfactants and then removed with water, as is usually the case. This is because these surfactants also break down the natural skin barrier - the cell membrane complex of the epidermis - and thus constantly cause latent damage to the skin. HYPOGEN CARE Beard Shampoo uses the special biopolymer complexes of the sublevactum formula for cleansing. These take up the impurities (absorption) without damaging the epidermis and in particular the cell membrane complex.
Beard conditioning through beard cleaning alone ...
When using HYPOGEN CARE beard shampoo, the beard is already extensively conditioned to make it supple. The HYPOGEN CARE beard care oil is used for further conditioning, but can only be used globally on specific areas of the beard. The beard care oil also conditions the skin by stabilizing the cell membrane complex.
Pathogen-inhibiting effects already during beard cleaning ...
HYPOGEN CARE beard shampoo has pathogen-inhibiting and soothing effects. This prevents skin irritation on the beard or even infections (e.g. beard lichen) during beard cleaning. Other skin abnormalities, especially inflammatory ones such as acne or an inflammatory razor burn, are also prevented.
HYPOGEN CARE beard care oil also has pathogen-inhibiting effects. As a leave-on product, it therefore has a preventative pathogen-inhibiting effect on both the skin and the beard hair.
HYPOGEN BEARD CARE in microscopic comparison
The following images taken with the polarizing microscope allow detailed comparisons of the surface of differently treated beard hairs.
One thing is clear: when HYPOGEN BEARD CARE is used, the surface of the beard hair is significantly smoother and more defined.
In polarized light microscopy, the background of the image also indicates the average pH value:
- The darker blue the background of the image, the more alkaline (>=pH 7) the hair and its surroundings are.
- The lighter blue the background is, the more acidic the hair and its surroundings are:
- Light blue = pH 5.5 - 6.0
- Bright white = pH 5.0 - 5.5
You can clearly see that HYPOGEN BEARD CARE balances the pH value of the beard hair - and consequently also the facial skin - in a range that is optimally compatible with health.
