Ingrown whiskers

Features

Ingrown beard hairs are caused by hairs pushing through the skin. This happens when the hair leaves the hair follicle and then curls back into the skin.

As a result of the ingrowth, inflammation develops around the barely visible, curved hair. This inflammation can in turn lead to scarring.

The technical term for ingrown whiskers is pseudofolliculitis barbae.
