Scaly hair

Features

Dandruff is caused by the disruption of the so-called microbiome as a protective layer of the scalp. The microbiome is responsible for the balance between the death of old skin cells and the formation of new ones. If it is disturbed, an excessive amount of dandruff develops on the scalp, which is spread over the entire head by the natural movement of the hair.
The causes of scaly scalp can be numerous, often fungal pathogens.
In technical terms, scaly hair is referred to as pityriasis capitis.

Split ends

Features

Trichoptilosis - commonly known as split ends - is a splintering of the hair at the ends. The ends of the hair are slightly brittle and appear dull. This rarely occurs in shorter hair, as short hair is exposed to less friction from movement (for example on the shoulders) and is often cut more frequently to maintain hair length. Split ends are a cosmetic problem as they make the hair look less smooth and organized.
