Erosions are areas of exposed skin caused by partial or complete loss of the epidermis. Erosions can be traumatic or occur in numerous inflammatory or infectious skin diseases.
An abrasion is a superficial wound in which the skin is damaged by abrasion. The skin is literally abraded. Depending on how hard and rough the surface is on which the skin is abraded, different types of abrasions can occur.
